As part of Sustainability Week activities, the College of Computer Science and Information Technology organized a scientific course titled “The Impact of Sustainable Environment on Building Communities”, which was presented by Ms. Hind Ali Abdulhassan and Ms. Zainab Mahdi Issa. The course aimed to shed light on the importance of sustainable environment in building thriving communities capable of facing future challenges. The course covered several important topics, including: – Sustainable Environment Goals: Discussing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to the environment, such as combating climate change, protecting biodiversity, and ensuring access to clean water and sanitation. – Education: Emphasizing the importance of education in raising awareness about sustainable environment and preparing a generation capable of making sustainable decisions. – Eradicating Poverty and Hunger: Exploring the relationship between poverty, hunger, and the environment, and stressing the importance of sustainable development in addressing these issues. – Providing Healthcare Centers: Highlighting the importance of providing healthcare centers to ensure everyone has access to good healthcare, especially in light of climate change that may lead to the spread of diseases. – Renewable Energy: Emphasizing the importance of using renewable energy to preserve the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. – Equality: Stressing the importance of ensuring equality in access to environmental resources and services, especially considering climate change may disproportionately affect vulnerable groups. – Industry and Innovation: Discussing the role of industry and innovation in achieving sustainable development and emphasizing the importance of developing new eco-friendly technologies. – Sustainable Local Communities: Emphasizing the importance of planning and designing sustainable cities and local communities to meet the basic needs of all residents while preserving the environment. – Consumption and Production: Discussing the importance of changing consumption and production patterns to achieve sustainability, and emphasizing the importance of waste reduction and resource efficiency. This course represents an important step towards building sustainable communities, as it contributed to raising awareness about the importance of sustainable environment and exchanging experiences among various stakeholders.
