
The College of Computer Science and Information Technology organized a lecture titled “Introduction to Corruption Crimes in Iraqi Legislation and Mechanisms to Combat Them”

attended by the scientific assistant, Assistant Professor Ahmed Shakir Abdul Ridha Al-Kanani, along with several faculty members and staff. The lecture, delivered by Assistant Professor Mohannad Ajab Jandil and Associate Professor Basim Mohammed Khudair from the College of Law, addressed the definition of corruption crimes under the jurisdiction of the Integrity Commission. These crimes include embezzlement of state funds, bribery, misappropriation, unlawful gain, and exceeding official duties, as per the Integrity Commission Law on Illicit Gain No. 30 of 2019. The aim of the lecture was to clarify the concept of administrative corruption, its manifestations, and its impacts. Furthermore, the lecture emphasized the importance of Iraq’s accession to the United Nations Convention against Corruption in 2003, ratified by Law No. 35 of 2007, and the practical significance of implementing the Convention’s provisions regarding the criminalization of administrative and financial corruption within Iraqi laws. Additionally, the lecture addressed forms of corruption crimes in the private sector, which represent another aspect of corruption offenses.
